During Sunday, riots aimed at two buildings which accommodated the asylum seekers; the acts represented the worst cases of civil unrest witnessed in the U. K. for years. The BBC and Reuters published a Rotherham protest videos showing some demonstrators wearing masks and waving Union Jack flags demanded that the immigrants be removed while others were seen breaking windows of a Holiday Inn Express. Former home to asylum seekers, the hotel was a theatre to horrifying sceneries of rioters burning plastic cans and throwing planks of wood and insulting boys in police riot gear.

South Yorkshire police said officers were pelted with glass bottles and beer cans by a mob of 700 people at most. Ten of the reported officers were injured and one officer passed out due to a head injury. Still there is no account of anyone, including the hotel workers and those living in the building, getting seriously affected.

There was the similar violence in another Holiday Inn hotel in Tamworth near Birmingham. Some of rioters broke windows and others used petrol bombs to set fires. Among the incidents that occurred in Staffordshire Police, sources indicated that due to the projectiles that were being hurled at officers, one of them suffered an arm fracture. Again, there were no casualties among the residents of the hotels.

Government Response

To express an opinion, Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, intends to convene an emergency response meeting on Monday. On Sunday night, during a live TV talk, Starmer called on the protesters to stop the far-right thuggery referring to the recent riots and stressed that the culprits would be punished according to the law.

Tensions grew after the attack when the Interior Ministry stated on Sunday that new emergency security measures would be given to the mosques.

Misinformation and Its Consequences

These ethnic riots were instigated by a horrifying incident in which three children were killed at a Taylor Swift dance class in Southwater last Monday. Right-wing organizations and movements used this event as a pretext for located hatred on immigrants and Muslims; posting fake news concerning the identity of the suspect being a refugee and a radical Islamist on social media.

To countercheck fake news, British authorities disclosed that the suspect was a minor and had been a Britain-born resident of the neighboring village for many years.

Conclusion

The recent right-wing violence that has occurred in the U. K has proved how dangerous fake news is and the divisions among various societies. Thus, greatest attention should be paid to the need for relevant information and a united community as the government starts taking measures to bring order and take care of the endangered population groups. The OPINION page of the Guardian of the 7th of January has emphasized the firm position of the Prime Minister Keir Starmer against the violence; thus, the role of the legal unity calls for unity especially in such modern and grimy times.
